4-Day Berber Villages Trek in Atlas Mountains

When you are in Morocco, you are never far from a vibrant display of color. It is possible to reach the spectacular Western High Atlas Mountains from Marrakech by traveling via a number of small hamlets and Berber communities.

ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH -IMI OUGHLAD -TIZIANE
Marrakech
This journey is well-known all throughout Morocco for being one of the greatest options for seeing Berber villages. From where you are staying in Marrakech, we will go out on our journey, which will take us via the higher valleys and the canyon of Moulay Brahim.

Imi Oughlad
We don't have to travel for very long before we find ourselves at the upper foothills of the Atlas Mountains. When we reach to Imi Oughlad, we'll find our team of muleteers waiting for us there, and then we'll start the two-hour climb up to Tizn'tachete. We travel through cornfields, forested regions, and areas with pine trees as we make our trip. We continue our journey on foot for a another hour in order to reach Imi n'Ifri, and after that, we choose a dirt path that leads in a southwesterly direction in order to get to Assif n' ait Oussaden.

Tiziane
Our destination for the night and dinner is the terraced village of Tiziane, so we make our way there. (Depending on your budget, we might be able to arrange for you to stay in a regular room or a luxury room during your climb of Toubkal.)

DAY 2: TIZIANE - TIZI N'TAGHRHOURTE - D'KNT
Oussaden valley
After finishing our breakfast, we will start climbing out of the Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley. Along the journey to Tizin'taghrhourte, we will pass through some walnut woods (1995m).

D'knt
Following that, we will make our way to Assaka spring over an exceptionally unusual stretch of flat ground, where we will enjoy a picnic lunch in the middle of exquisite isolation. Our afternoon trip will take us through the edges of the forest to either D'knt (1870m) or Agouns'n Assoul, where we will eat and sleep in a bivouac or gite, depending on which location we choose.

DAY 3: D'KNT - TIZI N'TAGDALTE - TIZI OUSSEM
Tizin'tagdalte
The first stage of our four-day, three-valley, Berber-village walk consists of a three-hour climb through walnut trees, maize farms, and barley fields. This is the first of three valleys that we will visit on our journey. After making our way across the Tizin'tagdalte, we will descend through the juniper forests and arrive at a spring, where we will eat lunch. In order to get to a river in Assif n'Ait Oussaden, we had to go down the winding upper hills for a total of three hours.

Tizi oussem
From this location, we start the journey to Tizi Oussem, which is located at an elevation of 1,850 metres, and once we get there, we either camp or stay in a gite.

DAY 4: TIZI OUSSEM - IGHOULIDEN - MARRAKECH
Azzaden Valley
After leaving the Azzadene Valley to begin the day's excursion, you will continue up the valley to the town of Azib n Tamsoult and then continue on from there to the Ighouliden waterfalls. This will be done after rising out of the Azzadene Valley. On foot, we made our way back across the Tizi n'Mzik pass in the reverse direction of our ascent (2489 m).

Marrakech
After lunch, we will make our journey down to Imlil, where you will have the choice of spending the night in a riad or being transported to Marrakech for the remainder of your trip.
